With established teams in London, Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow, we support a huge range of projects, at local and national levels. We’re enthusiastic about finding new ways to apply emerging ecological principals and methods to the most challenging of policy and development projects, and we have fun working together along the way.
We require an Ecological Consultant who is seeking their next career step in joining our London team to help grow and deliver our exciting and rewarding orderbook.
In 2024 we continue to support some of the most exciting projects in UK consultancy. Working alongside colleagues and partners, we apply our skills to projects ranging from energy generation to historic building restoration, regenerative agriculture to strategic biodiversity enhancement plans. We explore habitats from the Scottish and Welsh uplands to central London. We search for protected species ranging from bats to osprey, via dormouse and otter.
The role will involve:
- Preparing desk studies and collating ecological data sets.
- Preparing and planning surveys, in collaboration with colleagues.
- Implementing surveys across the UK, as part of a survey pair or a larger survey team.
- Analysing and interpreting ecological data.
- Contributing to consultancy reports.
- Contributing to wider business development activity.

Experience and qualifications
The successful candidate will complement our existing enthusiastic and dedicated ecology team. You will share our commitment to high quality science and be motivated to grow your ecology field skills.
This role would suit candidates with some hands-on experience already obtained of habitat and species survey skills seeking to take their professional development to the next level.
The role is designed to ensure successful candidates have continued exposure to all aspects of consultancy, whilst allowing them to further develop their careers.
Essential
- Knowledge and experience of wildlife in the UK, including a basic knowledge of English nature conservation legislation and policy afforded to these habitats and species
- Demonstrable experience in the practical application of habitat and/or protected species survey methodologies.
- Experience of report writing, including preliminary ecological appraisal and protected species reporting.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to work across the UK, with regular trips away from home.
- Willingness to work antisocial hours, particularly during the bat survey season when night shift work will be necessary. This is limited to a maximum of three out-of-hours surveys per week.
- Ability to work collaboratively and positively with our local colleagues and the wider ecology team / other disciplines
Desirable
- An understanding of the English development management process.
- Protected species licence.
