Do you want to work on exciting and challenging projects in a flexible and rewarding work environment?  We are seeking an ambitious principal transport planner or an experienced senior ready for promotion with excellent design skills who can make a tangible difference to our projects to create places in which we and our clients can take pride.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy team of transport planners in Central London, with flexible in-office time. We work on a wide variety and scale of developments and local authority projects, including many Central London developments and the iconic Battersea Power Station. You will have responsibility supporting senior staff within a talented team, work independently where required, and we will encourage your progress with your professional qualifications or chartership.

About the Role

As a Senior or Principal Transport Planner, you will act as project manager, supporting the Project Director who will act as your line manager and who will remain 'hands on' in the project. You will be responsible for the day to day running of projects and their administration, and support business development with the preparation of fee quotes and bids, calling on your technical knowhow and experience. Your role will include working with more junior staff to review technical work and support the delivery of consistent, high-quality work that goes beyond the basics. You will be actively engaged in consultation with local authorities and stakeholders as projects require and be able to work independently where needed.

Requirements

This role would best suit a transport planner who has:
  • At least 6 years’ experience working in in the transport planning field.
  • Knowledge of the planning system and transport-related matters, including Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and Environmental Statements
  • A practical knowledge of relevant cycling/walking design standards, highway standards and building design guidelines
  • Experience of using tools to design elements of the built environment, preferably AutoCAD and other associated Autodesk design software (such as AutoTrack) desirable
  • Experience of preparing robust, visually engaging supporting material using a range of graphics software
  • Good writing and numeracy skills
  • An understanding and skills in pedestrian and highway capacity modelling, preferably some use of PICADY, ARCADY, LinSIG
  • Interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively and professionally with the design team, clients, key stakeholders and contractors
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with ability to work within deadlines
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including Excel
Key responsibilities:
  • Working alongside our ‘hands-on’ Project Directors to project manage a wide range of projects
  • Supporting junior members of the team to learn and deliver projects collaboratively
  • Helping develop multi-modal access strategies and designs for all kinds of developments and public sector transport projects
  • Develop initial concept / feasibility studies for large masterplan sites
  • Undertaking technical assessments and analysis across a wide range of transport related subjects
  • Preparing technical notes and reports, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Delivery and Service Plans and other assessments
  • Playing an active role in the transport related aspects of building and development design
  • Attending meetings with clients, architects and planning authorities
